Crybaby Bridge is located on Whitesville Road in Columbus, Georgia. If you follow this road
deep into the woods, it will eventually turn into a two lane road, then gravel. Eventually, you will come upon 3 wooden
bridges. The third one is known as the infamous Crybaby Bridge. The legend about this bridge is so well known
in this area, in fact, that when my friend and I were visiting Columbus and inquiring about haunted places, this one was the
first mentioned. When we asked about the legend being true, we were told "Just be out there after dark, you'll see" and
boy did we ever. The story about this little bridge goes two ways. One says that a baby accidentally fell in the creek
here and drowned. Another variation of this story is that the mother purposely drowned her children in this creek.
Either way, the result is the same. It is said after dark, if you park your car on the bridge and cut it off, it won't
start back up for awhile. It is also said that you can hear a sound like a baby crying. I can say from personal
experience that you can also hear this sound if you park your car down the road and walk back onto the bridge, but you do
indeed, have to be on the bridge to experience it. It has also been told that a figure in white has been spotted drifting
through the woods near here, however, this is not personally confirmed.
If you decide to investigate Crybaby Bridge for yourself, it would probably be a good idea to
go during the week, as it is a popular spot, especially among the teenagers on the weekends. There has also been discussions
of replacing this bridge as well as some others, so this opportunity to visit may be short lived.
